TEACHING EXPERIENCE

With over 25 years of experience as a Middle School and High School math teacher in North Florida, I specialize in 8th Grade Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 Honors for High School Credit, and Intensive Math. My current focus is on developing high-quality resources that align with Florida's B.E.S.T. standards, as well as creating financial literacy materials to enhance student learning.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Targeted worksheets based on state standards have proven highly effective for my students. I emphasize Florida's B.E.S.T. standards and Common Core. Recently, I have focused on supporting students with attendance issues and significant gaps in their math foundations. Recording my lessons and posting them online has been immensely beneficial. This year, I plan to expand my YouTube channel with more video lessons, develop additional targeted skill worksheets, and write blogs to assist fellow teachers.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

As a student-focused instructor, I am proud to share that last year, 75% of my Pre-Algebra students scored a perfect 5 out of 5 on Florida's FSA, including two classes of students with severe learning disabilities. Additionally, my school achieved a 100% pass rate on our state end-of-year Algebra exam for the 11th consecutive year.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Math Certified Instructor Grades 6-12 by the State of Florida, Business Education Certified Grades 6-12, BA University of North Florida Business Administrations, MA Webster University Human Resource Development

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have a YouTube channel with instructional videos designed to assist both students and teachers, which can be found at https://www.youtube.com/@mr.slopeguy. As I approach my final five years in the classroom before retiring, I reflect on the insights and strategies I've developed over 26 years of teaching. My goal is to support less experienced teachers by providing them with the tools and guidance they need to succeed in their teaching careers.
