Math Lab: How to Draw The Square Root Spiral (Spiral of Theodorus)

This is a great activity for students to learn use The Pythagorean Theorem and to show the relationship in the measurements of each hypotenuse when creating right triangles with a one unit leg. * They begin the activity by constructing an isosceles right triangle with legs one unit long. * Additional right triangles are attached to each previous triangle resulting in a completely different right triangle. * Interestingly, however, the series of triangles will surprise them by having

POSTER: 10 Commandments in mathematics

Welcome! I have recreated a free poster for display in the classroom. I smile each and every time I read it, and I'm hopeful that other teachers will appreciate the poster as an addition to the classroom displays! The poster is intended to remind students that there are NO shortcuts to math computations; there are NO steps that they should skip. I feel that it is also "friendly" in the way it reminds the students to follow procedure, yet it saves the teacher from having to repeat, re

Poster: Holiday class room/door poster

I have always enjoyed this holiday mathematical take on "HO HO HO" for the holidays! Without a doubt, it is a great boost for the holiday spirit and for creating a positive mathematical environment for our students. I once showed it to my department chair who immediately corrected me saying that I should put parentheses around the "HO" to be "mathematically correct". He was absolutely correct, so please note, the parentheses are included....:) Please enjoy, and Happy Holidays to you and your
