Lizzie Borden was tried and ultimately acquitted for the MURDER of her PARENTS in the 1890s. The trial was controversial. How could a WOMAN possibly hack her parents to death and why? How could this have happened while she was HOME if she didn't do it? In this nonfiction unit, students will read articles about the case and then decide for themselves if they think Lizzie Borden is INNOCENT or GUILTY. Argumentative Essay with evidence from The Tragedy of Julius Caesar
This Argumentative Essay will have your students creating a claim and defending it with evidence they find in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar and one non-fiction reading of their choice. This is a great way to integrate fiction and nonfiction studies with a clear writing assessment. It also allows students two elements of choice: one in the nonfiction text they elect to use and another in the choice of writing topic as two are listed in this assessment.
