5th Grade Emergency Sub Plan Bundle (2 FULL days!)

These no prep, emergency sub plan packets include activities to cover ALL major content areas for two days. (Math, Reading, Grammar, Spelling, Writing, Science, Social Studies, plus bonus activities!) The activities are simple enough for the beginning of the year, yet good review for mid-end of the year. Directions and "fast finisher" ideas are provided for the sub for each activity.

Activities Included in Packet 1:

-WRITING: A creative writing prompt: Where do you think your teacher really is today?

-SPELLING: Use a secret code to determine how many points each spelling word is worth. (This is still a fun and mathematical activity if students don't have spelling words!)

-READING: A reading comprehension passage with questions and a reading log to fill out after silent reading to ensure students were engaged in their reading. (This works for assigned reading or student-chosen silent reading books alike!)

-GRAMMAR: A proofreading passage

-MATH: Fraction story problems, order of operations review, and multiplication and division practice (3 separate activities)

-SOCIAL STUDIES: Includes a news article and current events worksheet for students to fill out identifying main idea, details, and more.

-SCIENCE: Students analyze a line plot about high/low temperatures to answer questions using the graph.

-BONUS ACTIVITY: Students use critical thinking skills, word play, and creativity to complete this activity if needed.

Activities Included in Packet 2:

-WRITING: A writing choice board of 9 different prompts for students to choose from. Line paper for writing is included in the packet if needed.

-SPELLING: Students choose a rule for sorting their spelling words. (alphabetical order, number of syllables, number of vowels, spelling pattern, etc.) Then students sort spelling words according to their rule. *This activity may still be completed without spelling words as students will be instructed to sort the names of their classmates.

-READING: A reading comprehension passage with questions and a reading log to fill out after silent reading to ensure students were engaged in their reading. (This works for assigned reading or student-chosen silent reading books alike!)

-GRAMMAR: A proofreading passage

-MATH: (3 activities)

-Multiplication & Division review

-Comparing decimals to the thousandths place

-Fractions (adding, subtracting, and multiplying)

-SOCIAL STUDIES: Includes a news article and current events worksheet for students to fill out identifying main idea, details, and more!

-SCIENCE: Students will determine if they possess certain genetic traits. (i.e. a widow’s peak, dimples, etc.) With the help of the sub, students will collect class data about these traits and see how they measure up to the general population!

-BONUS ACTIVITY: Students use a code (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc. to add up how many “points” different words are worth.
