Description
Your students will learn about America with this American Symbols and Landmark unit. This unit will help your students explore and understand important symbols of America and help foster a sense of patriotism and appreciation for American history. This unit was made for 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade students but could easily be used for any elementary grade. This is a unit about America that can be used at any time of the year. This would be great for Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, President's Day, Independence Day, or Flag Day.

American symbols and Landmark posters-There are 11 colorful and informative posters that provide information about the symbols and landmarks. These posters are real pictures of the symbols.
Vocabulary cards-15 cards that give the definition and picture.These words are great to use for discussion and to display. The cards also serve as a reference tool for students. Worksheets to follow are included.
Yankee Doodle worksheet with comprehension questions. Your students will be surprised what the original intent of the song was.
Statue of Liberty Project
With this project there is two pages of information on the Statue of Liberty. Comprehension questions to follow.
Organization sheet to write phrases and facts about the Statue so students can write a free-verse poem. (Samples included)

Pledge of Allegiance vocabulary and a quiz on the vocabulary that is in the pledge.

Read the book America is… by Louise Bordon.
Then your class will make their own America is class book… Suggestions, paper and samples are included for a successful project.

Reader’s Theater Scripts- Three two-part reader’s theater scripts are included, featuring a tour guide and a child visiting an American landmark. The scripts revolve around Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, and the Martin Luther King Monument.
