What educators are saying

I used this to review standards that would be assessed on the fifth grade state science test. Many of the students had forgotten plant and animal classifications.

Description

This is an interactive PowerPoint that focuses on animal and plant classification for upper elementary, 3rd-5th grade.

SC.3.L.15.1: Classify animals into major groups (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, arthropods, vertebrates and invertebrates, those having live births and those which lay eggs) according to their physical characteristics and behaviors.

SC.3.L.15.2: Classify flowering and non-flowering plants into major groups such as those that produce seeds, or those like ferns and mosses that produce spores, according to their physical characteristics.

This lesson is broken up into two separate sections: one for classifying animals and one for classifying plants. Each slide walks students through the process of classifying animals and plants into major groups using using text, pictures and videos. There are also review questions after each section.

This resource focuses on the third grade common core science standards, but it's also great review for 4th and 5th grade as these standards are all on the 5th grade standardized test.
