Finding resources to teach your students about Australia's colonial past can be tricky. This unit, along with its accompanying powerpoint and lapbook activities, will help your students understand the reasons behind Australia's colonisation and the difficulties faced during the expansion of European settlement in Australia. It will adequately assist you in meeting the Australian Year 5 History curriculum requirements (version 8.4 and 9.0).

PLEASE NOTE: this unit has been updated to comply with the new Australian Curriculum 9.0 standards. The old version (version 8.4) is also still included in this bundle for now while schools make the transition to the new curriculum.

- the role of a significant individual or group, including First Nations Australians and those who migrated to Australia, in the development of events in an Australian colony AC9HS5K03

Version 8.4

- Reasons (economic, political and social) for the establishment of British colonies in Australia after 1800 (ACHASSK106)

- The nature of convict or colonial presence, including the factors that influenced patterns of development, aspects of the daily life of the inhabitants (including Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander Peoples) and how the environment changed (ACHASSK107)
