What educators are saying

Loved the selections for MLK day to review author's purpose. This only covers four of the types (persuade, inform, entertain, and explain), so I ended up creating my own to have one of all 5 types.
Great resource! We used this as an introduction to point of view. There are a lot of pieces to this product! Thank you!

Description

This is an educational worksheet that students can complete while remembering the life and enduring contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr. Students read four passages related to Martin Luther King, Jr. They must determine whether the author's purpose is to persuade, inform, entertain, or explain. ********This resource is available in three formats:

  1. Traditional Printables- Print the PDF and distribute the pencil-and-paper worksheet.
  2. Easel Activity- With this paperless format, an interactive layer has been added to the original PDF! Students can complete this activity on a device. Students read each passage and then type the author's purpose for writing the passage in the answer box.
  3. Easel Assessment- Students complete this self-grading quiz on a device, as well. After reading a passage, students select the author's purpose from a list of four possible answer choices. With this option, the teacher chooses whether or not his or her students receive immediate feedback.
