Description

This 56 page speech and language companion was developed for use with the book, "Big Pumpkin", by Erica Silverman and can be used to target a variety of receptive and expressive language skills including identifying and labeling nouns and prepositions, categorizing, stating attributes, describing similarities and differences, following directions, answering questions, sequencing, and story retelling. This packet includes an open ended game board which can be used to target articulation/phonology goals, pragmatic language goals, etc. Also included are cards designed to be used with the treasure hunt game "Cariboo Cranium".

Contents:

Pages 5-6: Nouns - There are 12 noun cards you can use to work on comprehension and expression of vocabulary related to the story.

Pages 7-10: Prepositions - Use the haunted house and trick-or-treaters to work on comprehension of prepositions such as “in”, “on”, “under”, “behind”, etc.

Pages 11-21 Categories - Use the category cards (food, clothes, garden tools, autumn/fall) to sort into 2, 3, or 4 groups.

Pages 22-23: Sequencing - Use the life cycle of a pumpkin cards to work on sequencing. Both color and black and white copies are included.

Pages 24-26: Similarities/Differences - Use the same/different cards with the open ended game board to work on describing how two items are alike and different.

Pages 27-29: Attributes - Use the witch hat cards to work on stating attributes.

Pages 30-31: Comparatives & Superlatives - Have your students put the pictures in order and work on identifying and labeling “big”, “bigger”, and “biggest”. You could also work on “small”, “medium”, and “large”.

Pages 32-37: Answering Questions - After reading the book, “The Big Pumpkin”, by Erica Silverman, have your students answer questions about the story. There are 18 different question cards
included. You can use the cards with or without the pictures depending on the level of your students.

Pages 38-41: Story Retelling - Cut out each picture and glue it to a popsicle stick or tongue depressor to make a puppet. Use the puppets to retell/act out the story.

Page 42: Cariboo Cards - Use these cards to play the treasure hunt game, “Cranium Cariboo”.

Page 43: Open Ended Game Board - Can be used with noun cards, attribute cards, same/different cards, and game cards you create.

Page 44: Blank Preposition Cards - Use these cards to create additional directions for identifying prepositions.

Pages 45 - 47: “BOO!” Cards - Various sized cards (to match noun cards, attribute cards, and same/different cards) that can be used with the open ended game board.

Pages 48-49: Blank Game Cards - Create additional cards to target articulation/phonology, functions, associations, etc. and use them with the open ended game board.

Pages 50-56: Word Wall Cards - Vocabulary related to “Big Pumpkin” by Erica Silverman that can be used on a word wall.

This download does not include "Big Pumpkin" by Erica Silverman. This book should be purchased separately.
