What educators are saying
Students loved searching for cars. In the assignment, it leads the students to KBB as one of the sites to use for searching for cars. I found it easier having them just search local car dealerships.
My students enjoyed this. It was fun for them to see real-life applications of exponential functions in a context that they will actually encounter

Description
This project is for students at the end of the Algebra 1 exponential functions unit. Students are given an interactive Google Slides to follow the directions and type their answers directly on the slides. They will use exponential growth, decay, and exponential equations to solve application problems.
Students will research to find a car they like and follow the prompts on the Google slides to answer questions about the car and how it will depreciate over time. They will go in depth with topics such as monthly payments (with interest), depreciation rates, and additional costs with owning a car. There are 12 application problems in total.
