Description

Your secondary U.S. History students will be engaged with this fun and interactive museum exhibit project about the spread of the African American Civil Rights Movement to other minority groups.

They will learn about six groups during the civil rights movement (the Women’s Liberation Movement, the Asian American Movement, the Native American Movement, the Gay Liberation Movement, the Disabled Rights Movement, and the Chicano Rights Movement). Both PRINTable and DIGITAL versions are included.

There are several options for this project:

1. Group Project (students create a museum exhibit) – (i.e. Poster) and complete a gallery walk.

2. Technology Project (students create a museum exhibit using Google Slides or PowerPoint) and complete a “technology” gallery walk.

3. Pair-project: Students analyze ALL the civil rights individually, with partners, or in groups by reviewing the placards (perfect if you have limited time)

California State Standards:

11.10 Students analyze the development of federal civil rights and voting rights.

5. Discuss the diffusion of the civil rights movement of African Americans from the churches of the rural South and the urban North, including the resistance to racial desegregation in Little Rock and Birmingham, and how the advances influenced the agendas, strategies, and effectiveness of the quests of American Indians, Asian Americans, and Hispanic Americans for civil rights and equal opportunities.

7. Analyze the women’s rights movement from the era of Elizabeth Stanton and Susan Anthony and the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment to the movement launched in the 1960s, including differing perspectives on the roles of women.
