Consonant blends foldable cut and paste activity pr tr and gr beginning sounds

A fun cut and paste phonics activity for early readers at home or school. This resource looks at 3 consonant r blends - pr, gr, and tr (at the beginning of words).

Use this printable for Kindergarten or first-grade literacy centers, and in interactive notebooks. The design makes this activity more hands-on than a standard consonant blends worksheet.

In addition to learning about or reviewing consonant blends, children will also be practicing their fine motor/scissor skills and their hand-eye coordination.

For each sound, there are 2 template choices that children can use to make their foldout (see below for words used on each to check they will be suitable for your learners).

Firstly they will color the letters and pictures. Next, they’ll cut out the 4 words and match them to each picture before sticking them down. Pupils will then cut around the outside of the template before folding along the vertical lines. A great way to practice scissor skills as well as reading!

The foldout can then be closed to show just the blend letters, then carefully opened to reveal what’s inside.

Some children may require extra adult support with cutting or folding.

The words used for each template are as follows:

Tr template 1: tree, tractor, tray, triangle

Tr template 2: treat, train, trumpet, trunk

Pr template 1: prince, prawn, press, present

Pr templates 2: prize, printer (pram for UK version), pray, pretzel

Gr template 1: grow, grin, grub, grapes

Gr template 2: gravy, grade, grass, grill
