Description: Prompt for Inquiry

You are have been hired to design a dream habitat for an animal of your choice for a new zoo being built by the X-Animal Company. As a researcher and to design a perfect habitat for your animal, you will need to become an expert on that animal. You will need to use a variety of technologies to

research as much as you can about that animal and record facts you find.

In this project, you will research and write journal entries about expeditions, collect data on the animal, its habitat and predators/prey, write an informational report about the animal and its habitat, and you will design and build a small scale model habitat for your animal.

What is Project Based Learning?:

Project Based Learning is a method of teaching where students have a question or topic that relates to the curriculum that they work on for an extended period of time in an engaging, creative, and experimental manner and respond to the question through a challenge. The difference between PBL and creating a project is that projects are created AFTER learning and PBL allows students to learn through the entire process and toward a goal of answering a challenge or question.

The project is focused on student’s learning goals and curriculum using creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and self-management.

The best part about PBL is that it is brings a lot of learning subjects together in one project, allowing students to spend a lot of time on their PBL while meeting many aspects of the curriculum all at once.

How To Use:

-In this product you will see Lesson Plans and Student Worksheets alternate as you scroll through the PDF. The lesson plans will act as guidelines for you on how to implement the student worksheet and will present you with materials needed and insight into the student’s assignment. Note, for this PBL project you will need to allow your students access to a variety of information and technologies (such as computers/internet) to allow them to do their personal investigations.

-Photocopy any necessary student handouts such as step-by-steps or rubrics. These will be needed during your art lesson and are very helpful for students.
