Description

This webquest covers the periodic table and its development by Dimitri Mendeleev, elements, how to read individual listings of elements on the table, periods, groups, metals and their physical properties, nonmetals and their physical properties, metalloids, and chemical families.

This engaging lesson will help your students prepare for standardized tests by mastering the key concepts surrounding the periodic table. Full teacher keys are included. I use this webquest as a key tool to help my students prepare for the STAAR test.

Designed to specifically cover TEKS 6.6A, 8.3D, 8.5B, and 8.5C. Although created to align with Texas State standards, this lesson will be useful in any classroom that covers the periodic table, its development by Dimitri Mendeleev, how to read the table, and common chemical families and their placement on the table.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE LESSON?

✓ A nine page webquest that guides students to a variety of engaging, easy to read websites, and video clips that supports the lesson. The reading is broken up into short, topic specific sections so your students can concentrate on specific areas if desired. Lesson utilizes shortened “tiny URLs” to allow for ease of use, especially if students need to type out the URL. ✓

✓ Full teacher keys. ✓

✓ A section for early finishers guiding students to a fun periodic table quiz game and a middle grades appropriate music video over the elements. ✓

✓ A second version of the webquest with full URLs if you prefer.✓

✓ All custom fonts used to create the lesson. They are rights cleared, so feel free to use them for any purpose, even for creating lessons you plan to sell on TPT! ✓

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO TEACH?

Approximately two to three class periods in length (as a point of reference, I teach a 50-minute class). I generally block out two class periods in the computer lab and everyone has time to finish. If I can only get one day in the lab, I print the packets and assign any remaining work as homework. I usually complete the full lesson in three class periods. Created by Mister Science.
