What educators are saying

My students loved this project. It was perfect to keep them engaged with something meaningful after state testing.
My co-teacher and I used this as a end of year activity to give the kids a brain break after state testing. It was awesome watching how these groups figured out how to use the money in the parameters given!

Description

Congratulations! You have been selected by the Blue Waters and Sandy Beaches Travel Agency to participate in a dream vacation contest!  Imagine if you could go anywhere within the United States.  Where would you go? How would you get there? What would you do?  These questions and more will need to be researched and answered.  Use your persuasive and informative skills to plan out your trip, put together a convincing presentation, and prove to the travel agency that your trip is the best dream vacation available on the market today.

There are a few guidelines and requirements:

  • You can go anywhere within the United States that you want
  • Your trip cannot be less than 5 days and cannot exceed 14 days
  • Your whole family can go, but they don’t have to.  However, you must bring at least one adult
  • Your must stay under budget

Purpose:

This is a project based learning unit that was designed to have students plan out all the aspects of a dream vacation given a specific budget and to inform/persuade an audience that their trip is the best one.

  • The Google Slides Presentation includes all directions, links, examples, etc.
    • Slide 4 has links to the Graphic Organizers (I couldn't figure out how to add those to this)

Project Synopsis:

  • Students will research and explore the different costs associated with planning a vacation.  They will determine the costs for:
    • weather (just added)
    • transportation to/from their destination and while there
    • where they will stay
    • where they will eat
    • daily activities

  • Students will create a presentation that includes
    • all of the research with prices
    • images and/or videos
    • links for websites
    • an argumentative paragraph

  • Students will present it to classmates, if possible.
