Description

These note sheets structure factoring for students who struggle with Algebra. There are warm ups, notes and homework assignments included. Each day's warm up, note sheets and homework assignment have the same picture in the corner, making it easy to distinguish each day's work from the next.

There are 5 days of notes and homework assignments in this download along with 7 warm ups (2 extra in case your students need extra practice). Each day focuses on a different type of factoring (see below). I use these materials in my self-contained Special Ed Algebra 2 classes.

Here are the topics covered (each has a warm up, note sheets and homework assignment):

Day 1: Factoring trinomials with positive B and positive C (A = 1)

Day 2: Factoring trinomials with negative B and positive C (A = 1)

Day 3: Factoring trinomials with negative C (A = 1)

Day 4: Factoring binomials and trinomials with GCFs

Day 5: Factoring differences of squares

My students did very well with factoring this year using this set of warm ups, notes and homework assignments. We started our factoring unit with this free Prezi to get used to the thinking necessary to factor and then went into the materials in this download. Breaking things down into different days works really well!

Use the structure of an expression to identify ways to rewrite it. For example, see 𝘹⁴ – 𝘺⁴ as (𝘹²)² – (𝘺²)², thus recognizing it as a difference of squares that can be factored as (𝘹² – 𝘺²)(𝘹² + 𝘺²).
Choose and produce an equivalent form of an expression to reveal and explain properties of the quantity represented by the expression.
Factor a quadratic expression to reveal the zeros of the function it defines.
