What educators are saying

My students absolutely loved doing this and it helped them to understand the concept of what it's like to be a paleontologist.
My 3rd graders absolutely loved this activity. We spent the week talking about fossils and finished up our learning experience with this lab. It was a great activity for them.

Description

In this hands-on fossil activity, your students go beyond worksheets for second grade science. Instead, they can become paleontologists for the day! This fun fossil lesson is a great introduction to how fossils are discovered.

Cookie Dig Fossil Activity – Students Become Paleontologists

With this fossil activity, you'll leave behind the boring worksheets for second grade science! Each student will receive a chocolate chip cookie. They’ll use toothpicks and paintbrushes as "tools" to become paleontologists extracting each "fossil" from the cookie. As a real scientist, they'll also take through notes of their observations.
