Fraction Christmas Tree & Flip book Activities Mini-Unit *Differentiated*
- PDF
Description
Looking for a way to get into the Christmas Spirit without sacrificing content? This mini-unit includes 2 great Christmas activities to practice Fractions, and also includes a 2-page practice sheet that could be used as homework or a quiz (answer key included). Descriptions of the activities are as follows:
- The Fractional Christmas Tree is a whole class activity I use at the beginning of my fractions unit to activate prior knowledge and review what students already know about fractions. Students fold and cut out an ornament, then follow the directions on the inside of the ornament and use their knowledge of fractions to decorate the outside of the ornament. I have differentiated this activity by including 9 different ornaments at 3 different levels. If you look at the preview you can see some of the examples from my class tree at various levels. After students finish their ornaments, they put them on the class tree (outline and Tree Topper Title included to create class tree)
-The Christmas Tree flip book can be used for students to demonstrate their knowledge of fractions, or any other topic you want to "seasonalize" :) I have included complete directions with pictures and examples of a fractions flip book you could make.
-I have also included the 2-page fractions review sheet that I created for my classroom (I use this the first day of my 5th grade fractions unit to review what they should already know about fractions). This could be used as homework or a pre-quiz to see what students already know about fractions.
See the preview to see a sample of some of the pages included in this mini-unit. My students LOVED creating our class tree, and both activities are a great way to decorate your hall for the holiday season!
