Description
A bundle of 3 fraction pennant activities for adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions. There are 60 pennants - 20 in each set. You can read more about each set by clicking on the links below.
Holiday version: Fraction Ornaments mini-bundle.
*For a larger bundle of fraction pennants, please see Fraction Pennants Bundle.
Included in this bundle:
In this collaborative activity students add fractions by first coloring portions of circles to show the two fractions, then adding the fractions together and finally showing the sum as a picture and as a fraction. All problems have unlike denominators that are related so that only one denominator needs to be changed in order for the two fractions to have a common denominator. Once a pennant is complete, it can be hung along a string in your classroom to show the world that, "Hey, we know how to add fractions!"
Fractions range from halves to sixteenths.
Included are 20 pennants with fraction addition problems, an optional student answer sheet and an answer key. Each group of students can be given a set of pennants, crayons, scissors and either glue, tape or a stapler. Students can be in charge of cutting out the pennants. Groups can compete to see which group can complete the most pennants or your entire class can add pennants to one string as they complete each one.
Subtracting fractions. In this collaborative activity students subtract fractions by first coloring portions of circles to show the two fractions, then subtracting the fractions and finally showing the difference as a picture and as a fraction. All problems have unlike denominators that are related so that only one denominator needs to be changed in order for the two fractions to have a common denominator. Multiplying fractions. In this collaborative activity students multiply fractions with the area model by showing the area each fraction covers on a common-denominator grid and looking for the intersection of the two colors. Students then reduce their fractions and write their answers in the boxes on each pennant. Once a pennant is complete, it can be hung along a string in your classroom to show the world that, "Hey, we know how to multiply fractions!"
