Description

In this free algebra activity, students sort tables, graphs, equations and ordered pairs into "function" or "relation" Venn categories. The "inner circle" of the Venn diagram is where functions go to show that functions are always relations but relations are not always functions.

I have used this activity as an introduction to functions, as a warm up after a lesson on functions and as a closer. The printable version can be glued into an interactive notebook as a lasting reference.

This activity was updated with a GOOGLE Slides version that students can complete online. The digital activity can also be downloaded as a PowerPoint file and still be interactive. Includes both print and digital.

Understand that a function is a rule that assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of an input and the corresponding output.
Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one element of the range. If 𝘧 is a function and 𝘹 is an element of its domain, then 𝘧(𝘹) denotes the output of 𝘧 corresponding to the input 𝘹. The graph of 𝘧 is the graph of the equation 𝘺 = 𝘧(𝘹).
