This bundle covers all of the Grade 4 BC Big Ideas for Science. In other provinces/territories/states the curriculum and content may be more appropriate for other grade levels.
How are these Science units formatted?
Most Science units by Poet Prints Teaching follow a similar structure. Though the units vary in the length and individual lessons, most units include the following:
- Day-By-Day Teachers Guide - A daily lesson breakdown for using all parts of the resource in 45-60 minute science lessons! The planning is all done for you. ✏️
- Introductory Worksheets - Introduce students to each concept using the pages in this section of this packet. Choose the page(s) in this section that work best for your class. These pages are great for conducting some student-led research if you have access to technology in your classroom.
- Vocabulary - Vocabulary word wall cards using the major vocabulary from each unit.
- Vocabulary Hunt - Place the vocabulary cards around the room and conduct a ‘vocabulary hunt’ where students are asked to search around the room to find the definitions for their vocabulary words!
- Nonfiction Reading - No Textbook? No Problem! - Non-fiction reading passages about the specific topic.
These pages are designed for classrooms without access to science textbooks. They address the topic at hand at a third/fourth-grade reading level.
Each passage is paired with a reading response worksheet. - Teacher-led Lessons - 1 or more teacher-led lessons about each topic.
- Student-Led Learning - 1 or more student-led lessons or activities about the topic (see individual previews and descriptions for detailed outlines!)
- Project-Based Learning* - Each unit includes a final piece of project-based learning to help students synthesize what they have learned about the topic..
*Changing States of Matter does not have a project-based learning component. This unit is largely experiment-based.
All units are both printable AND digital. Units include a complete printable PDF of teacher instructions and student work pages AND digital (Google Slides) versions of all student pages for use in virtual learning.
While these units are designed to be hands-on, most of the activities can be adapted for virtual learning. Each unit includes DIGITAL, Google Slides student pages that can be uploaded into Google classroom for distance learning. If you are working remotely or doing distance-learning, I suggest teaching the lessons to your students via video (Zoom, Google meet, uploaded videos) and giving them a chance to work on any independent projects or assignments (in SMALL steps) at home.
