What educators are saying

This was a helpful resource for gauging students' current understanding of various grammar skills. My students did find it extremely challenging.
Excellent Resource. The information and template were very helpful in assisting me with creating one for school. Thank you.

Description

Need a grammar diagnostic test that will give you a clear picture of what students know? Use this assessment as a pre (and/or post) test to get a benchmark and track growth!

This test is TEACHER-friendly because it is easy to grade, fully editable, and assesses all of the grammar topics specified in the CCSS for grades 7-12 (and some of 6th)! The question types are a combination of matching, labeling examples and terms, and identifying errors in sentences.

STUDENTS will benefit from the self-assessment embedded into the pre- and post-assessment pages, AND they’ll like my surprise: a mix of original sentences (by me) and famous quotes from movies, books, and songs. They’ll be singing their way through a test that would otherwise be boring!

**NOTE: This download includes Microsoft Word and PDF documents. If you'd prefer a self-grading Google version, click here.**

This 14-page download includes…

• Teacher’s Guide

• Pre-Test student directions and self-assessment page

• Post-Test student directions and self-assessment page

• Test (100 questions, with 4-9 questions per topic)

• Answer Key

• Optional: test corrections form (to help with growth between tests)

• Bonus: BOTH the editable version AND the ready-to-print PDF are included!

TOPICS ASSESSED include: parts of speech, subject & predicate, complete sentences vs. fragments, run-on sentences, dependent vs. independent clauses, sentence types, direct & indirect objects, active & passive voice, parallel structure, pronouns, subject/verb agreement, verb moods, verbals, modifiers, types of clauses & phrases, semicolons vs. colons, commas, apostrophes, and hyphens/dashes/ellipses.
