What educators are saying

The roadmap with this unit makes me feel like I have a place to start that makes sense. The pre-tests allow me to know what I need to focus on to get as much out of my time as I can. This has been very useful!
I LOVE this resource. I can pull what I need and kids are always engaged. The sequence is intuitive and really helps students learn.

    How to Sequence Grammar Instruction

    Description

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO GET STARTED WITH A FRESH SEQUENCE OF GRAMMAR INSTRUCTION! Ready for grammar instruction to be enjoyable for both teachers and students? Tired of boring grammar lessons that don't help students become stronger writers? This flexible grammar activities bundle has everything you need to transform your grammar instruction into a rewarding, measurable approach.

    GRAMMAR ACTIVITIES BUNDLE CONTENTS

(Please see the resources included for specific lists, further details, and more preview images.)

    • Slideshow Lessons for direct instruction. Introduce students to new grammar concepts (or just to review skills from previous learning!). Lessons include appealing graphics, clear definitions, examples for modeling, and practice prompts.
    • Activities for getting students to engage in divergent, creative thinking and for encouraging important repetition of grammar skills in an engaging way! Each unit and/or lesson includes a variety of approaches to keep students on their toes.
    • Games for reviewing grammar concepts. Great for fun reward days, sub plans, test prep, and etcetera.
    • Assessments - both traditional and non-traditional - to measure students' progress with learning the grammar concepts.
    • Writing tasks are built into many of the lessons so students have an opportunity to apply the grammar concepts.
    • Mentor sentences are incorporated in some of the lessons (either in the slide shows or in the practice activities) to increase relevance...authors write books with these grammar concepts!
    • Bonus file: A pacing guide! This will give you an idea of my best approaches for sequencing grammar instruction. I share which lessons to teach first, second, third, etcetera...and why!

    IMPORTANT QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

    Which grammar concepts are included?

In this collection of grammar units, you will find lessons for each of the following:

    • subjects and predicates
    • fragments and run-ons
    • parts of speech
    • prepositional phrases
    • verbals (infinitives, participles, gerunds)
    • sentence structure (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex)
    • comma rules
    • punctuating dialogue

Future grammar units will also be added to the grammar collection.

    Are these digital or print?

Please see individual resource descriptions regarding which are digital and which are print. At this time, I've converted many of the resources into a digital format. The resources that are still only available as print versions are on my list to update as soon as possible. As part of this bundle, you will receive all future updates to resources as they become available digitally.

    Are these editable?

Many are, but please see individual resource descriptions regarding which are editable. As part of this bundle, you will receive all future updates to resources as they become available in editable format.

Do these units make a whole curriculum?

Not necessarily. I call this a grammar collection because it's a bundle of my favorite units that cover key grammar standards in middle and high school. Please refer to the standards for your state and grade level to see which units apply best for your students and your curriculum needs. If you teach multiple grade levels, you may decide to split the units up and teach them in different classes. Alternatively, you may decide to use some of the materials that do not pertain to your grade level standards as review or way to fill learning gaps. (I will be adding more grammar units to this collection in the future!)

If you are looking for engaging grammar units and lessons that inspire middle and high school writers, this is the grammar bundle for you! Ideal for grades 7-10.
