Description

Whether your students know nothing about Greece, or whether they have Greek standards, everyone will love this unit. This unit is designed to be used as way to enjoy a fun filled couple of weeks learning about Greece. (It may take more than 1 week if you do all the activities). Your class can use as little or as much of the unit as desired. Although I have the unit organized by sections, you can mix and match as much as you want. Your students will be making their own Pandora's Box, researching Greece, making a Greek vase by scratching pictures with toothpicks, writing about mythical creatures, creating Aesop type fables by selecting category cards, playing games, creating Greek columns, participating in activities such as Pass the Torch, and Greek Scoot...and so much more! I begin the unit by including eleven mini-posters introducing students to the geography and climate of Greece, music and dance, Aesop's Fables, mythology, points of interest, (including the Parthenon),theater, gods and goddesses, fun facts, pottery and vase,s and the Ancient Olympics.
If you want to have your own classroom Olympics, never fear! I have included individual, team, indoor and outdoor activities, along with medals, badges, recording sheets, etc... to help make many fun memories. There is even a certificate of participation in Greek Week. There are 12 vocabulary word wall cards for daily reminders, and coloring sheets just for the fun of it.
Your kids will be busy having a good time while they are learning. I hope you enjoy!
If I haven't included it in this unit, the items needed to complete the activities are minimal. Most of these are basic classroom materials.
Remember, this unit is a way to have fun while learning about Greece. It is not intended to be used in place of a unit on Greece. If you decide to use it with an academic unit on Greece, please use it as a fun and informational resource, not in place of the unit.
