    How to Draw Features of the Face Worksheets Description

    This printable PDF Features of the Face drawing guide and worksheets resource is perfect for Middle School or High School level beginning art students to support learning to draw the features of the face. Students will learn tips for how to draw eyes, noses, mouths and ears realistically. Each Feature of the Face worksheet includes a 2 page PDF file: one page of concepts and anatomy that presents step by step diagrams to show how to draw the facial features and one page with high quality reference images for students to practice drawing.

    Fractured Self Portrait Lesson Description

    This pencil shading lesson guides students on how to draw features of the face using drawing pencils. The easy step by step illustrations and video tutorials guide students in learning how to draw a pencil portrait. It is perfect for Middle School and introductory level High School art students. This lesson is a great way for students to develop pencil shading skills, learn how to draw the faces and develop confidence. 

    Learning Goals:

    • Students will learn the basic anatomy of all the features of the face: eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. 
    • Students will learn how to draw features of the face realistically using pencil shading.
    • Students will learn how to plan a composition and create a custom viewfinder. 
    • Students will learn how to draw a pencil portrait in a unique fractured style and see examples of this style of representation by artists of different contexts, backgrounds and cultures. 
    • Students will reflect on their artistic choices and intentions.


    This Lesson Includes:

    • Teacher Guide with links* to a materials list, Google Slides version of the presentation, editable version of the rubric (Google Doc), sample day by day lesson schedule, applicable National Core Art Standards (Middle School-High School, USA) and terms of use

How does knowing and using visual art vocabularies help us understand and interpret works of art?
