Description
This is a week-long, intensive mini study on Dystopia, Utopia, and associated literature both fictional and nonfictional. This is designed to engage eighth-grade students with fun, relevant pieces such as the Hunger Games movie as well as literature staples such as "The Lottery" and "Those Who Walk Away From Omelas".
Included is the following:
reading-list
daily overview
suggested Common Core standards
Hunger Games worksheet
Dystopian narrative graphic organizer
This mini unit is not mean to be exhaustive-when teaching, I utilize resources of others as well; however, I have designed the unit to be stand-alone for teachers who wish to introduce students to discussion and the idea of dystopia and utopia in a time-constrained situation. It can be modified for upper levels.
