⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Kayla M. said, "Another great resource from The Dabbling Speechie! My kids stayed engaged in the task and we were able to quickly gather baseline data needed for the beginning of the year!"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Kristi G. said, "I like how this screener in divided into grades. It has been a great, quick resource for me to use to determine if further assessment may be appropriate."

This is an informal language screener to help busy speech-language pathologists get quick information about a child's receptive and expressive language skills.

The informal language assessment results will help you decide if a child needs further assessment. If you see an area of weakness in the student's receptive or expressive language skills, you can quickly find other informal or formal measures to probe deeper into that language area.

Use this language screener for elementary students as a flipbook or Google Slides document.

⭐Woohoo for virtual speech screeners⭐.

It comes with a screener recording Google Form for the Prek-2nd language screener portion and for the 3rd-5th grade language screener portion.

This allows you to pull up the Google Slides on your iPad while recording the student's responses on your computer.

Use this elementary language screener in teletherapy by sharing the screen with the language screener stimulus Google Slides™ so the student can see the stimulus items. Administer the items that are on the Google Form. Take data using the Google Form and click submit. The child’s answers and scores will be saved on the Google Sheet linked to the Google Form.

Speech Therapy Screener Tool for Language - Prek through 5th Grade

How to assemble your language screener: Print screener on cardstock and laminate. Cut out and punch two holes at the top of each page. Then, attach using binder rings. Some pages are out of order and have the number written at the bottom right corner to know the order of pages. Use the stimulus pages to match up with the recording forms. Put the screener stimulus items (the flipbook) in front of the student and follow the recording forms for what to ask/say to the student.
Grades 3-5 start on page 7.

***********This is an informal tool and is not normed. You must use your own clinical judgment in determining recommendations based on the results. Students that receive an overall percentage of 60% or less may warrant a full speech and language assessment.

Administering the screen: Bring a dry erase marker, so the child can circle certain items or modify by having them point to items.
