- Zip
Description
As your Life Skills and Transition students head back to school, it can be challenging to plan a life skills scope and sequence of lessons and learning activities that will work for a range of student needs and abilities. If you are a new special education or generalist teacher, the challenge can really seem quite daunting!
What's inside?
This scope and sequence gives you everything you need to plan a full two weeks of activities and learning experiences for Life Skills or Transition students, including the five most common teaching and learning areas:
- Literacy / English
- Numeracy / Math
- Community Skills
- Employability Skills
- Ready for Work
Each learning area includes a topic focus for the week, learning outcome snapshots, detailed activity ideas and some resource links. The plans are easy to follow and quick to adapt to suit your own learners and teaching situation.
Who is it for?
This scope and sequence is perfect for you if:
- You are about to begin your first week of school with life skills, transition or lower ability level students who are high school age or young adults
- You are time poor and beginning the year already feeling stressed and worried about what lies ahead
- You need a 'grab and go' detailed outline that lets you gain back some of that precious time, whilst still having the ability to adjust and implement content to suit individual goals and meet specific learning needs
- Your students begin the year feeling unmotivated and bored, or lack enthusiasm for learning
- You want something more engaging than another set of 'All about me' and 'What I did on the holidays' activities
What to do
- Download the free scope and sequence for Week 1 and 2
- Use the scope and sequence table to identify learning outcomes that are a good fit with your students
- Locate the resources needed using the links included
- Find a suitable area in your room or hallway for displaying visuals (posters and word wall)
- Use the learning activities for each topic area to support your planning for the week
- Reflect on the learning experiences at the end of the first week and adjust your teaching and learning plans as needed
- Check in with other colleagues to see how they are feeling at the end of the first teaching fortnight - remember that these are challenging times, and everyone experiences stress and worry in different ways, teachers included.
