What educators are saying

All of Jillian Starr's products are wonderful. This resource helped me organize my LAL blocks and provided resources so I didn't have to create my own or find other activities.
I absolutely love this start up kit bundle! It is fantastic and has so much of what you need! Thank you!

Literacy Center Start-Up Kit Bonus Activities

    Description

EVERYTHING you need to get your literacy centers up and running (and keep them running) for the whole year! Over 200 pages of Work Sheets and ALL organizational materials!

This product includes 4 favorite bundles:

    Making Words Literacy Center

[INCLUDES DIGITAL UPDATE] Students manipulate the given letters to create new words. It encourages practicing phonemic awareness, word families, blending sounds and manipulating beginning, ending and vowel sounds. In my classroom I often accompany these pages with a magnetic white board and magnetic letters or with letter tiles for easy visual/tactile manipulation. Each Page provides 5 or 6 letters that can used to create multiple words, with a bonus word(s) that follows the phonetic rule being taught. For example, the phonetic rule being taught is the Short A sound and the letters provided (HSTPA) can be used to spell PATHS

    Word Family & Phonics Poems

[INCLUDES DIGITAL UPDATE] 25 original poems, each focusing on a single word family and/or phonetic pattern. These poems for beginning readers are a great way to give your kiddos that extra practice!

    Stamp It Out Literacy Center

This product is a 25-Week sequence of word wall words used to strategically introduce phonetic patterns to students. "Stamp It Out" asks students to read, stamp, trace and write each word wall word. After practicing these words, students move on to working with word families to create rhymes in congruence with that week's phonetic pattern.

    Word Work & Phonics Bundle

25 WEEKS of word work literacy center activities into one complete set (130 pages of activities!) I have also included a week-by-week breakdown to explain how you can systematically progress through phonetic patterns and word wall word selections. Each weekly phonics pattern is accompanied by at least 5 of the following activities:

    -Word Shapes

    -Rhyme Time

    -Cut & Paste

    -Making Words (manipulating letter tiles)

    -Word Sorts

    -Syllable Sorts

    -Word Searches

    -Cloze Sentences

    BONUS ITEMS INCLUDED

    ALL ORGANIZATION TOOLS!

    -120 Word Wall Words

-Alphabet Heading for your Word Wall

-Table Top Center Signs with Step-By-Step Directions (to give students more independence)

-Literacy Center Labels/Tags (3 different sizes for your convenience)

    Word Wall Game Templates!

    Describe It Center

This literacy center encourages students to consider multiple attributes when describing an object. Select an object, place it at your literacy center and have students work to find as many words to describe their object as possible. Also included is the Describing Words Cube, which provides categorized descriptors on a student friendly resource.

    Listening Center

-Provides an example of a fluent reader

    -Improves comprehension skills

    -Exposes students to new vocabulary

    -Supports pronunciation for ELL students

    -Express opinions about a text

-Recall events from a text and represent it with pictures and words

-Gives students access to literature that may be above their independent reading level.

    Research Center

Generally I have a bin of 5-10 non-fiction texts at multiple reading levels, but all on the same subject (e.g. sharks, hurricanes, Martin Luther King...). After sufficient modeling and discussion, students self select their appropriate text and research the provided topic. The work page that accompanies this activity focuses on extracting information from the text, understanding the purpose of photographs, and generating further questions.

    Journal Writing Center

Journal Writing is great way to incorporate narrative and creative writing into your literacy centers. It of course cannot replace direct instruction in writing, but students can carry over the skills they’ve learned, apply and practice them. Included is a list of journal prompts to get your journal writing center started!
