MYP Science students must complete a research task: Reflecting on the Impacts of Science. This is a ready-made Criterion D assessment task for a chemistry unit with a focus on the elements of the periodic table and their uses. This IB MYP Year 2-3 Science research project can be used as-is with Grade 7 or 8 students, or modified for other levels. It is no-prep and requires no other resources - simply print and hand out, share electronically, or assign via Google Classroom.
Students are guided through the process of:
- Choosing an element from an interactive periodic table.
- Identifying a problem that can be solved using the element.
- Evaluating the pros and cons of the solution.
- Discussing the impact of the solution on a societal factor.
- Citing sources and referencing.
