What educators are saying

I absolutely loved this! It was so awesome to see what my kids wrote. And then it was very neat to put all the pieces together to make a "quilt"
My students really enjoyed this the activities from this resource. When we were finished it made a lovely presentation that I could put up in the hall for the children to see and be proud of.

Description

Here’s a quick, easy, and fun writing prompt craftivity, perfect for Martin Luther King Day.

Teacher Comments:

  • “A creative way to get the students thinking.”
  • “This activity was easy to implement & I got great results from my students.”

There are 9 different quilt squares to choose from.

Each style comes in black and white featuring two different pictures of Dr. King.

I’ve also included a set of quilt squares with the clip art in color.

Students choose one, then using a black marker, write down a dream in however many blank sections they want.

They lightly color the sections, then trim.

For a splash more color have students glue their square to a sheet of construction paper and trim.

Teacher Comment:

  • “My students loved this activity! It is a great connection from MLK to each of them!”

You can scatter the individual squares on a bulletin board, punch a hole at the top and suspend back-to-back from the ceiling, or connect all of the squares together to make a classroom “quilt” to be displayed on a hallway wall.

For that finishing touch, have students glue a photo of themselves on an empty section.

Teacher Comment:

  • “My students loved using these to create their own "big words" quilt after we read Martin's Big Words. It made a beautiful and meaningful display in the hallway.”

  • These looked awesome lining the hallway!”

I’m Diane from Teach With Me, hoping this little bit of craftiness, gets your kiddos excited to write. Happy MLK Day.
