Mini-Guide for Juniors: Secret of the Andes Interactive

This is a two-week literature guide for the book titled Secret of the Andes, by Ann Nolan Clark. In this book, Cusi, an Inca Indian boy who lives in the Andes Mountains, wonders why he lives a lifestyle that is different from the way others live.

NOTE: This guide was updated and expanded in May of 2024.

The guide contains ten sections; these components are included:

• vocabulary activities
• discussion questions
• reading activities – Students will: explain the use of personification, put events in the correct order, fill in the blanks for examples of alliteration, write questions/answers, think of a synonym, think critically, and compare/contrast. Students will learn about: pronouns, repetition, a contraction, similes, fact/opinion, alliteration, metaphors, and the number three in writing.

• a poster
• a crossword puzzle
• activities that may be used as assessments
• an Answer Key

This is an interactive guide that enables parents/teachers to facilitate an oral discussion of the book, but it only provides space for one student to complete fill-in-the-blank activities. If you are interested in using this guide with more than one student, check out the options:

1) When you purchase one set of reproducibles, you have permission to make a copy for each of your students.

2) An Answer Key is not provided for the reproducibles; the answers for the activities on the reproducibles are found at the end of the mini-guide.
