A fun, engaging way to learn all about the different Native American tribes is by using this Native American Social Studies Unit!
This product includes a variety of resources while teaching a Native American thematic unit. Resources are included for social studies, read aloud lessons, whole group or small group instruction, as well as, literacy and math centers!

Science/Social Studies Lesson Plans
Use these lesson plans to GUIDE your thematic Native American unit.
Native American Books
Print these books on cardstock, staple and use large washi tape to cover the edges to create a book. Read each book to teach that specific region of Native Americans.
Native American Charts
Write facts for each group on the charts provided after reading the books.
Native American Crafts
Have the create and design a Native American Bag (using a brown grocery bag) to keep all of the crafts and activities they complete during this unit. Use the direction page and craft pages to complete a craft specific to the Northwest, Southwest, Great Plains and Woodlands Native American Indians.
“Powwow” Cards
Purchase the song “Pow-Wow” by Jack Hartman (available as Amazon MP3). Have the learners act out the song and together sort the verbs and nouns using the t-chart provided.
Shared Reading Mini-Lessons
Read the poem “Chief Seattle’s Lesson” together each day of the week using the schedule provided. Teach predictions, syllables, vocabulary, sight words and much more before the students add the poem to their poetry notebook.
Native American Writing Craftivity
Use the tracers and writing page and have your learners create an Indian craft to attach their writing. Have learners write 1-3 facts (depending on level) that they learned about Native Americans.
Read Aloud Mini-Lessons
Use the 5 books and ideas to integrate the Native American unit of study with your reading mini-lesson.
Writing Station
Place the Word Chart and writing pages in the writing station.
Alphabet Center
Have your learners match the capital and lowercase letters and write the matches on the work page provided.
Phonics Center
Have your learners look at the picture card, decode the word and write the sounds on the work page provided.
Sight Word Center
Edit the center to match the sight words your learners are reviewing. Have your learners make each word and write the words they make on the work page provided.
Sentence Center
Have your learners match the words to create each sentence. Then, have them choose a sentence to write and illustrate.
Counting Center
Have your learners make groups of ten by placing arrows on the each mat and practice writing the numbers on the work page.
Missing Numbers Center
Have your learners place the correct number on the mats. Then, have them write the missing number on the workpage.
Comparing Numbers Center
Have your learners place the <, >, = sign on each mat as they compare the numbers. Then, they may write the numbers on the workpage.
Addition Center
Have your learners place an addition equation on the mat and use the manipulative to solve then place the sum on the mat.

How can I find a certain activity in a large PDF file?
If the resource you purchase has a variety of activities compiled into one PDF find the table of contents and click on the activity title. This should take you to that specific activity in the resource.

How do I know if a resource has been updated?
Go to your account button at the top of the page. Under the “Buy” section, click "My Purchases ". Choose to “sort by: recently updated” to see what resources have been updated since you downloaded them last. You can download any updates from there. If a file has been updated, you will see a notification under the resource that says "Newly Updated – Download for Free!".

Install the most recent version of Adobe Reader onto your computer. If you have any problems editing, viewing or printing a file make sure your Adobe Reader is updated.
Now you can download the file to your computer. Once the file has downloaded open in Adobe Reader. You should be able to view the editable fields and the text should match the product description.
