What educators are saying

My students enjoyed this resource. I used it around Halloween, so they were extra motivated to draw spooky skeletons. Using this resource helped them gain a better understanding of positive and negative space, and their drawings were successful.
Thank you for this great lesson with fantastic resources! Very well laid out for me to follow. Students enjoyed this and learned so much.

Description

This negative space art lesson is perfect for middle or high school art classes and is great for distance learning or as an in-classroom project. It works for Halloween or any time of the year. The reference images contain links to the video demonstrations showing how to complete the project.

Learning to see and be aware of negative space is a fundamental skill that takes practice in learning how to draw. This is a fun and expressive way to get used to looking both at the positive and negative space when drawing.

There are two versions included in this download. One uses watercolor and oil pastels and the other gives students a choice using materials they are more likely to have at home. They can choose to fill in the negative or positive spaces of the skeleton with a collage, text, pattern, or zen doodle. These can be emailed or shared with students in Google Classroom. It contains two worksheets, two video demonstrations, rubrics, and reference images to draw from. Students can watch the demonstration and draw from the reference images from their phones, ipads, or computers.

All the prep and planning are done for you. This lesson is packaged to be versatile and easy to deliver in any teaching situation.

Need an Easy to Follow Art Sub Plan?

The included worksheets work great as sub plans, and early finisher assignments, for students on home instruction or in ISS. They are easy to follow with the linked videos and are easy for substitute teachers or self-directed learning when the art teacher is unavailable.

All of my lessons can be shared with your students through Google Classroom or any digital platform and are formatted to work for distance learning or in the classroom. They are designed to save you time and help your students access the tutorials, presentations, videos, or worksheets as easily as possible. You can find more ready-to-go, easy-to-follow, time-saving art lessons in my TPT SHOP.
