FULL VERSION CLICK HERE
Students begin with a tutorial on fossil terminology (definitions and images): cast fossils, mold fossils, replaced remains fossils, living fossils, original remains fossils, trace fossils, and sedimentary rocks (sandstone, shale, and limestone).
Students then practice correlating between rock layers and index fossils while becoming familiar with some of the most common and notable fossils themselves.
To conclude, students have 3 activities investigating Pangaea and its correlation to index fossils (ex. mesosaurus, lystrosaurus, glossopteris, and cynogynathus).
This works well for any level but is GREAT for special education students or college prep learners that need an alternative assessment and may not be great at traditional labs.
Also, perfect for homeschooling!
This has been used as a pre-class, lab/activity, review, and assessment. This is an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.
