This periodic table of elements unit includes:
- BONUS file: Instructions on how I teach this unit.
- Getting to Know You Activity: Great for back to school or as an introduction to the unit. Create a periodic table bulletin board with the finished product.
- Teacher presentation and student fill in notes: The perfect way to start your unit! Students will take notes as you introduce essential information related to the periodic table of elements. Students can keep the notes in their science notebooks to reference throughout the unit.
- Science reading comprehension activities to give your students information about the concepts pertaining to this unit. These can be used in class to introduce or review learning. Each activity includes short readings and checkpoint comprehension questions to assess understanding.

How to use this unit in your science classroom:
- Getting to know you activity: Use this as a back to school activity or a way to kick off your unit. As students finish, hang up to create a periodic table bulletin board.
- Teacher presentation: Introduce the topic to your students using the teacher presentation and student notes activity. This will give students background knowledge, allow them to ask questions, and have notes to reference throughout the unit and before an assessment.
- Science texts: These can be used to reinforce learning or as independent assignments. Need sub plans or homework? These can be easily assigned to cover either one.
- Scavenger hunt: This activity allows students to become familiar with the periodic table of elements. They will learn where periods and groups are and how to search for elements.
- Choice assignments: Have students complete 3 of 9 or assign specific ones. This activity allows students to become more familiar with the topic.
- Review activities: More review is included to allow struggling students to really learn and understand the unit.
- Project: Use this as an assessment for the unit. A rubric is included!
