What educators are saying

This is a great screener! I was able to check off all the sounds I was listening for while the student "played". I feel great about having a natural sample of their speech skills.
This is such a great and well-organized informal speech screener! Thank you for making this awesome resource!

Description

This Informal Speech Sound Assessment Kit includes 9 different articulation and phonological processes assessments - each one designed to address a specific need.

Use this quick articulation screener with children of all ages to assess for speech sound errors. They are suitable for children of all ages who have articulation or phonological difficulties.

There are informal assessments for specific phonological patterns, specific articulation sounds, as well as general speech sound screeners, 30+ sound loaded scenes, and even a play-based speech sound assessment! You can choose which one is best suited for your situation. This is an all-in-one speech sound assessment kit.

These Informal Assessments can be used independently, in combination with one another, in addition to formal testing, as a screener, as an informal assessment, or as progress monitoring tools.

There are stimuli and forms for both structured and spontaneous assessment.

Over 100 pages of Assessment Stimuli and Forms.

Assessments (stimuli + response forms) included are:

  1. Picture Scene Screener: 1 image that allows for assessment of spontaneous speech of all sounds in all positions.
  2. Speech Sound Screener: Structured naming task that allows you to assess all sounds in all word positions, while focusing on one sound at a time.
  3. Speech Sound Informal Assessment: Structured naming task that allows you to assess all sounds in all word positions.
  4. Individual Sound Assessments: 30 images per sound (10 per word position) for the sounds: w h m n p b t d k g s z f v sh ch j l r vocalic c th (voiced) th (voiceless)
  5. Individual Sound Loaded Scenes: 20 scenes for individual sounds with 5 target words per word position
  6. Phonological Pattern Screener: Structured naming task that allows you to assess 8 Phonological Patterns (Initial + Final Consonant Deletion, Cluster Reduction, Fronting, Backing, Stopping, Syllable Deletion, and Gliding).
  7. Individual Phonological Pattern Informal Assessment: 10 images per pattern (same as listed above).
  8. Individual Phonological Pattern Scenes: 8 scenes for individual phonological patterns with 15 opportunities in each scene.
  9. Play Based Speech Sound Assessment: Keep little ones engaged in hands-on play activities to assess all sounds in all word positions. Includes instructions and play props (you can also use farm toys!).

Please note: These Informal Assessments are not standardized. A chart summarizing typical age of acquisition for speech sounds and for phonological patterns are included, based on current research. Please note the ages of acquisition are a guideline, and will vary depending on which research you refer to. Use your clinical judgement when choosing goals. This informal assessment will not tell you which sounds or patterns to treat or provide you with a diagnosis.
