What educators are saying

This resource is great for helping students with word skills. Poetry is always fun for the students.
This is probably my favorite of all the writing units. My students love coming up with their own ways to describe each month and that it lets them color and be creative with their drawings, while still challenging them.

Description

This adorable unit makes it so easy to teach and incorporate poetry every single month in preschool, kindergarten and first grade. Each month, we use pocket chart words to build the sentences from the poem. We are working on so many reading and phonemic awareness skills. Follow up worksheets and activities are included so students can create their own poems. Monthly poetry folders are such a fun way to practice reading fluency, writing, sight words and concepts about print with your kindergarten, first grade and second grade students.

The possibilities are endless with this kit!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "This is a wonderful resource. Students were engaged and looked forward to it each month."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I absolutely LOVED the monthly poems! My students looked forward to coloring, highlighting, and answering questions about the poems. It was a great way to build reading fluency"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I think this might be my favorite unit so far!"

"I love all of your writing units. Having easy to prepare material makes my life so much easier."

  • After we learn the poem each month, it is so fun to mix up the words in each sentence with pocket chart cards.
  • Students then have to put the words back in order to write the sentence correctly.
  • I make a poetry folder for each student to practice reading, writing, figurative language, and so much more.
  • Students can share their poems with each other and the class to practice public speaking.
  • Decorate each month by displaying their poetry on your bulletin board.

My K-1 writing bundle was updated July 2023 with NEW activities and lessons.

Plus, all 9 units have been translated to Spanish as a free bonus!
