Real and Nonsense Word Sorting

Engaging activity for real and nonsense word sorting! Your students will be engaged with this fun hands on activity. This is an effective way for teachers to assess how well a student is apply their phonics skills being taught during phonics instruction. Reading nonsense words helps build confidence and the students ability to attack unknown words in text.

Use a thumbs up for real words and thumbs down for nonsense words. There are 6 words for each (12 total) and a recording sheet. Students read and sort the words under the correct circle and write the word in the correct column on the recording sheet.
