Description

Hoping to improve your students' understanding of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet? Look no further than these Return-to-the-Text close reading annotations. These annotations provide students with a deep dive into the use of literary devices in carefully selected excerpts from the play, helping them to better understand the meaning and impact of Shakespeare's language. With six annotations covering key topics such as the prologue, love, imagery, sorrow, and regret, these resources are perfect for in-class use or as homework assignments.

This packet contains 6 Return-to the-Text annotations that force students back into excerpts of the play, focusing on the following topics:

  • Prologue Annotation
  • Romeo in Love Annotation – Act I
  • Juliet in Love Annotation – Act II
  • Imagery Annotation – Act III
  • Sorrow Annotation – Act IV
  • Regret Annotation – Act V

But that's not all - this resource has been updated to include an answer key for each annotation, allowing teachers to focus on critical areas and helping students to stay on track with their learning. And when paired with other resources from my TpT store, such as the Romeo and Juliet Digital Notebooks and Close Reading Unit, this resource becomes even more powerful.
So if you're looking to improve your students' critical thinking skills and deepen their understanding of one of Shakespeare's most beloved works, be sure to check out these Return-to-the-Text close reading annotations today.

See what teachers like you and I are saying about this resource:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wonderful resource, especially when paired with the close reading one!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This resource has a great selection of close-reading passages from Romeo and Juliet. The resource is simply designed and straightforward, but the critical thinking skills involved in each passage are far more important than a cutesy design! I love how the critical thinking questions build on one another, and how they link different speakers and passages together. My students very much enjoyed the conversations and analysis this resource sparked. I highly recommend it to all!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐LOVE!!! My 9th graders did really well with these.

These annotations can be completed independently, making them appropriate for both in-class uses and as homework assignments.

Additionally, these return-to-text annotations work perfectly to support these other Romeo and Juliet resources in my TpT store:

Romeo and Juliet Digital Notebooks

Romeo and Juliet Close Reading Unit

and are all included in the Romeo and Juliet Complete Resource Bundle.

The Digital Resources in my TpT store are growing weekly! Please check back regularly to see if there are other units that you can use in your classroom:
