My first graders absolutely LOVED this! The differentiated writing pages made it super easy for my struggling writers to feel comfortable with their writing.
My students really enjoyed this activity! I used the finished product on our classroom bulletin board.

Description

Need a Rosa Parks activity for Women's History Month or Black History Month, or any time of year? With this close reading passage, main idea and details craft, and writing paper, students will learn all about her important legacy while practicing reading comprehension and writing skills.

Students do a close reading of the passage where they can annotate the text to help them identify the main idea and details. They will then get to do a craftivity where they make the iconic Rosa Parks bus. Students write the main idea and details, illustrate/color the passengers riding in each of the windows, and assemble the bus by cutting and pasting.

This resource also comes with multiple options for Rosa Parks writing paper, if you would also like to have your students write about Rosa Parks after reading the passage.

Detailed teacher guides (with photos) provide all the instructions you need for using the Rosa Parks passage to do this Close Reading lesson and bus craftivity with your class. Please see the preview for all that is included.
