Science Lab Safety Rules/Contract & Safety Poster Assignment

This is an easy lab safety contract that puts the responsibility back on the students rather than on you as the teacher. The contract is written in kid-friendly terms and can easily be explained in one class period. This contract explains the safety rules of the classrooms and requires both the students and parents to sign acknowledging their understanding of the rules.

**The contract is editable so you can change the year and add your own name, school, or classroom number.**

How to use this:
--Keep the signatures on file in case there is ever a safety issue in the future.
--If a safety issue ever comes up this document serves as a great talking point that you can reference with both the parents and students.

As an extension I have also included a Safety Poster assignment that students can do to also demonstrate their understanding of the safety rules. This assignment includes simple directions and rubric for a quick assessment of understanding.

How to use this:
--Assign each student a different rule and have them design their poster based on that rule.
--Display the posters around your classroom all year long, or change which posters you display based on the activities of the week so that the students know what safety areas are of a concern each week.
