Description

This social living promethean flipchart is great for teaching students to differentiate between needs and wants. The flipchart opens with a split screen with 3 items on one side and 3 items on the other, and the students are asked a series of higher order thinking questions that lead into the opening of the lesson. Next, students are given vocabulary terms: need, want - along with definitions and visual representations of each term. Next, is a page that opens a discussion in which students must brainstorm the difference between needs and wants. The next page, invokes background knowledge of personal experiences with buying items that they need or wants. The next activity invites the class to think of items that they need and items that they wants and list it on a t-chart. After that, the slide provides an example of a completed t-chart for guidance. The next activity is a group activity (my class was broken up into tables, but you can adjust it to how you group your students), in which students are assigned items on the board and they must list all the needs/wants that they see. On the next page is a diagram in which students as a whole group, individually, or in teams must drag the needs to the need bubble, and the wants to the want bubble. Last, is a higher order thinking page allowing for review and closure for the lesson.
