What educators are saying

Engaging resource! Used for Earth Day! Students were able to visually see their carbon footprint which they loved! It was a very powerful way to start thinking about how they could make changes. The bulletin board looked great after!
Thank you for creating this resource! The carbon footprint coloring activity really helped my students reflect on their current habits and the small changes they could make.

I am REALLY excited about how this Earth Day project turned out! Earth Day is my birthday, so I HAD to create something fun for you!

  1. In this fun Earth Day reading comprehension passage and activities students learn about their Carbon Footprint and what contributes to it as well as focus on small and simple changes they can make to treat every day like it's Earth Day! Students begin by reading an interesting nonfiction Earth Day passage about their Carbon Footprint, and the small and simple things that effect the planet in a BIG way.
  2. Next, students take a quiz and calculate the size of their Carbon Footprint.
  3. From that point students can read through my suggestions of small changes they can make, or they can dive deeper in their own Earth Day Research project! I've included differentiated versions that are perfect for Upper-Elementary - Middle school, or Middle School - High School options!
  4. After that students can answer the reflection questions, or complete a Earth Day Word Search or Earth Day Crossword puzzle based on the reading.
  5. My FAVORITE part, is when students complete the "I am a Changemaker" Activity. Here they make an Earth Day pledge based off of the Earth Day Reading, or their Earth Day research. Students commit to a SMALL thing they can do consistently.
  6. Display their pledge using the EDITABLE Earth Day Bulletin Board. The Pledge page even has tabs students can add their own ideas so others can tear, take and implement their own small change to make a BIG difference for the planet.
  7. FINALLY, I've even included 3 different Earth Day Collaborative Class Posters your class can pick from as a fun extension activity!

This Earth Day Project Based Learning Activity Includes the Following:

  • Editable Reading Passage (Assign PDF as an EASLE Activity or as a Digital Activity)
  • Carbon Footprint Quiz & Calculator (Digital & Print)
  • Small & Simple Earth Day Change Poster
  • Dig Deeper Research Activity (Differentiated Versions: Upper Elementary, Middle School, High School) (Digital & Print)
  • Reflection Questions (Digital & Print)
  • I am a Change Maker Templates (Digital & Print) You can insert an actual picture of students into the template, or have them draw a picture of their change or a portrait.
  • Earth Day Crossword Puzzle based on the reading passage
  • Earth Day Word Search ( 3 Levels )
  • Collaborative Class Coloring Poster ( 3 Designs )
  • Editable Bulletin Board Kit
