What educators are saying

Great supplement for such a hard unit to teach. Pushed students to think critically about slavery and reach their own understandings.
This is a great resource to reinforce a lesson on the Triangle Trade/Middle Passage. I print everything and post it around the room, with the slave trade in 2 minutes video running on a loop. Fantastic resource, the class really got a lot out of it.

Description

Through this lesson, students learn about the Atlantic Slave trade and the Middle Passage by visiting 5 stations that discuss Triangular Trade and the experience of enslaved Africans along the middle passage. Students practice writing a historical context through their exit tickets. This activity is a great way for students to examine all aspects of the Atlantic Slave trade by examining primary sources, statistical data, and interactive maps.

For the classroom version, you will need at least 2 computers for students to visit (or Chromebooks or iPads) to view two of the stations. The digital version is assigned though Google Classroom.

The lesson is linked to NYS Social Studies Standards, but you could easily cut and paste in your own standards for your state.

NYS Framework Standards:

7.2e.1 - DESCRIBE the conditions of the Middle Passage.

This zip file includes a PDF version, a PowerPoint version, and a link to a Google Slides version. Both the PowerPoint and the Google Slides versions are fully EDITABLE. The digital version is only provided in a Google Slides format.
