The Holmes Sweet Music Home Picture Book Index

Have you been wanting to incorporate children's literature into your music classroom but don't know how? Are you overwhelmed with finding musical books that cover specific concepts or holidays? Do you wish you had something that helped make lesson planning easier?

Five years ago, I sat down and indexed my entire picture book collection. I categorized it to include rhythmic concepts, melodic concepts, holidays, seasons, thematic units, and almost anything I could think of. The time came for me to update it and it is finally here!!

In this product, you will get the link to make a copy of my entire picture book index via Google Sheets. The index currently includes over 700 (and growing) musically inclined picture books organized by holiday/season, diverse representation, thematic concept, rhythmic concept, and melodic concept, in addition to hundreds of links to supplemental ideas and resources.

There are also two lesson plan examples (one lower and one upper) of how I use a picture book as the foundation for a lesson plus examples of my "Meet the Composer" and "Meet the Performer" pages I would use after reading any musical biography with my students.

This was a lifesaver for me while teaching and made lesson planning a breeze by having this all in one place ready to go. I'm so excited to finally have this updated and available on my store for you all and I hope this provides you with the same comfort it provided me as you enter another school year full of magical and musical reading fun!
