Description

This trading simulation game was developed during my practicum as part of a unit on Canada's trading partners but can be easily adapted for History and Social Studies lessons in other countries, as well as exploring ancient civilizations. The focus of the game is to instill an understanding of the uneven distribution of global resources, and is intended to be played with lots of time for a (guaranteed passionate!) discussion period afterwards. This game was modeled for the Ontario Curriculum (grade 6) but features absolutely no distinctive currencies or countries so could easily be adapted to fit the needs of your classroom.

Geometric math concepts are also integrated into gameplay (it is how countries earn wealth) so it can be great practice for that as well! Similarly, if you have not yet done a geometry unit, it would be simple to create simpler resource objectives.

Included is printable high-quality colour .PDF files of game currency, rules and gameplay, resource chart, and 3 pages of teaching rationale/guide. All you will need to provide is the "resources" to be distributed to each country (rules, paper, etc - distribution is detailed in the Teacher's Guide) - I put mine in opaque zippered envelopes from the dollar store!

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns!
