Universal Gate-CSE231L_Electrical & Computer Engineering LAB REPORT
LAB-02: Universal Gates
Objectives:
• To understand the concept of Universal Gates (NAND & NOR)
• To implement the basic logic gates using universal gates
• To implement Boolean functions using universal gates
• To understand gate level minimization
Apparatus:
• Trainer Board
• IC 7400 Quadruple 2-input NAND gates
• IC 7402 Quadruple 2-input NOR gates
Theory:
Universal Gates:
Universal logic gates are the logic gates that are capable of implementing any Boolean function without requiring any other type of gate. There are two universal logic gates, they are – NAND, NOR. NAND gate represents the complement of AND operation. It is mainly the combination of AND and NOT gate. The output is 0 only when each of the inputs is 1. And NOR g ate represents the complement of OR operation. It is mainly the combination of OR and NOT gate. The output is 1 only when each of the inputs is 0. Using universal gates, we can construct any basic gate easily.
