Description

*Metric version. Students find area of composite figures and surface area and volume of prisms in this activity that doubles as classroom décor. All of the irregular shapes can be broken down into rectangles and triangles. Once a pennant is complete, it can be hung along a string in your classroom to show the world that, "Hey, we know volume and area!"

Prism side lengths are decimals for the volume questions. Prism side lengths are whole numbers for the surface area questions. For the questions that ask students to find areas of irregular shapes (gardens and apartments), all lengths are given in whole numbers.

*This is a METRIC ONLY version. If you would like a pennant that includes measurements in feet and inches, please see Volume and Surface Area Pennant

Included are 20 pennants with volume, surface area and area questions, an optional student answer sheet and an answer key. Each group of students can be given a set of pennants, scissors and either glue, tape or a stapler. Students can be in charge of cutting out the pennants. Groups can compete to see which group can complete the most pennants or your entire class can add pennants to one string as they complete each one. You may also choose to have your students colour their pennants to add to your classroom decor.
