In July 1940, the Luftwaffe (German fighter planes) began three months of devastating air raids on Britain. Though the future looked grim, Prime Minister Churchill did all he could to keep British spirits high. He gave stirring speeches in Parliament and on the radio. In 1969, The Kinks sat down and wrote Mr. Churchill Says. The song is about the struggle of World War II on the people of Great Britain. The song paraphrases parts of several of Prime Minister Winston Churchill's famous speeches.
